[Reviews] Brothers: A Tale of Two SonsA GotY ballot without Brothers in the running isn't a proper ballot...
A good board game does not necessarily translate to a PSP experience of equivalent value.
When I played Blokus Portable: Steambot Championship on PSP as part of an early GamesRadar assignment, I had never played the board game in my life. I liked the idea of a competitive puzzle game, one that mixed in an assortment of characters from a JRPG series, and that was enough for me to take a chance with the assignment.
I'm glad that I did, because it turns out Blokus is a lot of fun. The problem isn't the game itself, then. The problem is that the code behind the scenes produces ridiculous delays that suck most of the fun out of the experience.
Because freelancers always are assigned the good games...
To the best of my recollection, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil is the first game I ever reviewed for GamesRadar, which makes it the first game I ever reviewed for an online outlet that was willing to pay me actual money. For that reason, mention of the game will always make me feel warm inside, even though the game itself didn't have that same overall effect.
Infinite possibilities on the drawing board suddenly feel quite limited once they've been torpedoed by disappointing execution.
I seem to be mostly alone in not caring for Disney Infinity, which I honestly expected to like at least as much as Skylanders. The two brands share a lot in common, and I love Disney characters a heck of a lot more than I do the creatures in Activision's popular series. Still, I wound up being disappointed by what I got.
DuckTales Remastered is neither a complete failure nor the triumph it so easily could have been.
I had been looking forward to the HD remake of DuckTales, so I downloaded it from WiiWare and prepared to enjoy myself. Unfortunately, the game didn't meet my expectations. There were numerous elements that I quite liked, but some of the changes forced a style of play that to me goes against some of those elements that made the old title so very, very special.
