The site has a new look!

You might have noticed the site has a new look. If you're curious about what all went into that, this is the story for you.

Death and the Sorceress

I wasn't ready for the series to end with Death and the Reaper. I had too many ideas left unexplored, and there were more loose ends still dangling than I had intended. I wrote this follow-up to provide a cheerier conclusion to the series. It should work as a finale, or to set things up for a possible next chapter (someday).

Death and the Human

When I started writing Chronicles of an Amateur Reaper, this was the book I wrote. But I thought the series would develop with a lot more action and a lot less dialog, so I wrote follow-up stories that kicked things off in that vein. Now the original first installment is available as a prequel (and it's even free for some readers).

Death and the Reaper

This was originally planned to serve as the final entry in the series, hence its length. It's basically two stories in one, with a lot of twists and turns (and surprises for some readers, I hoped). It's also as dark as the series ever gets.

Death and the Enchanter

If I have a favorite entry in the Chronicles of an Amateur Reaper series, it's this one. I felt like it really nailed the balance the way I wanted, and it has some of my favorite scenes and dialog. Important stuff happens along the way, but mostly it's a nice bit of light before things get darker again.

Death and the Succubus

After the dramatic events of the previous book, the time felt right to scale things back a bit and have a little fun. This fourth installment was a lot of fun to write, and it set the stage for many of the events that would follow, even if in some respects it is the most 'optional' entry in the series.

Death and the Faerie

This entry in the series spends more time exploring the Realm, which I thought had all sorts of potential. I still believe that, but the time hasn't felt right to dive any deeper than Molly and her friends did here, in their third outing. It's an important piece of the overall story, for sure.

Death and the Vampire

A few villains seem to make appearances fairly regularly within the urban fantasy genre, so it was inevitable that Molly would face off against them sooner or later. The moment wound up coming very early in the second book, which I made an effort to begin with a memorable sequence. It might be my favorite opening chapter in the series.

Death and the Shifter

A walk in the midst of a downpour turned into a story idea that evolved considerably to become this first book in my largest series to date. It's my first attempt at urban fantasy, as well as my first attempt at first-person storytelling on a large scale. It offers a lot of other firsts, as well.

Seaside Lessons

Seaside Lessons is the first book in The Paladin's Assistant series that began as an idea for a novel. As of this writing, it's also the last entry in the series that I have written. The series as a whole is meant to explore the edges of a much larger world I hope to revisit eventually with other characters, but I might still tell additional stories about John and Edmund down the line.
