Buried Lessons

Months after the tragedy that unfolded in Langston, Edmund has learned to expect the worst from his new duties as a paladin's assistant. His next case starts with the sort of visit no one wants: a church official found dead in his own home, one day after he finally told the high paladin what he'd seen at a dig site outside Crestmont.

He never got the chance to say more.

Posing as newcomers eager to join the excavation, John and Edmund find a crew that's strangely content, a site leader named Clive who's a little too welcoming, and a weekly ritual meal that everyone but them seems eager to attend. The workers can't quite remember what happens at those dinners. Nor can they remember much of anything else.

What the ruins beneath Crestmont are hiding goes far beyond old stone and forgotten history, and once John and Edmund find it, there may be no getting out clean.
